Coweta senior Jaylynn Peck said her last volleyball season has started tough, but has shown promise.
“Our first two game were pretty challenging,” Peck said, noting the opponents were last year’s Class 4A and 5A state champions. “We lost but we went head to head with them. We want to make it to state this year and win the championship. Individually, I want to set a great example of leadership and hard work for the younger players.”
Piggybacking on the importance of being a good example, Peck said that as a senior, she emphasizes excellence in all areas of school.
“I want my teammates to know how important it is to keep their grades up as well as helping others off the court as much as possible,” she said. “I am also enrolled in Intro to Coaching, so I’m helping the 7th and 8th grade players.”
Peck doesn’t limit herself to the volleyball court, and in her free time she likes to show lambs for the Coweta FFA. She plans to attend college after high school, but isn’t sure where just now.
One thing is for sure, Peck wants to make sure the halls of Coweta High School remember her for her character more than anything else.
“Character is who I am as a person,” she said. “Character is how I treat other people and how I respond to their treatment of me. It’s doing the right thing no matter how hard it is. On the court I try to treat people with respect and understanding as to what they’re trying to accomplish. Off the court, I just try to be the best person I can.”
