Kooper McCoy first stepped onto the baseball field at the age of six. He was then playing for the Oklahoma Naturals. Now a senior with Coweta High School, McCoy is playing catcher, pitcher and some infield for the Tigers.
This team enjoys playing together and McCoy said they are like brothers.
Head coach Cody Pair has spent six seasons with the Tigers and he’s ready for them to take the next step. With players like McCoy, Grant Jones, Cash Singleton and others, that next step may come sooner than later.
This season McCoy said the focus is to continually improve and keep an eye on the prize at the end of the season. The last state title for the Tigers came in 1999.
“This year I want to continue to get better and help the team win a state championship,” said McCoy.
McCoy said one thing this team does is always have fun and play selfless baseball. Also, showing good sportsmanship on the field is important to McCoy as he represents Coweta High School, his coaches and teammates. McCoy said his parents have been big influences on him growing up and that he appreciates them always being there for him.
For McCoy, making good grades is always his top priority. Without the grades, having the chance to play at the next level would not be possible. McCoy has decided to take his baseball talent and grades to Ottawa University where he will continue his playing career and his education as a Brave.
When he’s not playing baseball or working on his homework, you can usually find McCoy hanging out with friends and playing video games. McCoy said once his playing days are over at Coweta High School, there is one memory he will not soon forget.
“My favorite memory was when we beat Bishop Kelley and dog piled on their field to go to state,” said McCoy.
But there is an opportunity for that memory to be replaced with one a little more significant this season.
