Current Coweta High School junior, Maverick McCullough, is looking forward to track season after missing last year due to the pandemic. McCullough has worked on his craft and will mainly compete in the throwing events this year.
“I’m part of the throwing team at Coweta and will be mainly doing shot put,” said McCullough.
Also, a football player, McCullough is the starting right guard and understands what it means to put in the work and to prepare before the time comes to compete. Whether it’s the football team or the track team, McCullough said everyone feels more like family than just teammates.
“My team is an important part of my life they are like family to me,” said McCullough. “I’m hoping to make the varsity team and place in a varsity track event.”
Sportsmanship is something important to McCullough. Representing his school and classmates on the field brings another level of responsibility to athletics for McCullough.
“I believe sportsmanship comes from one’s character and shows someone’s true self out on the field,” said McCullough.
McCullough said his is grateful for all of the work the coaching staff at Coweta put in to help him continue to improve as a thrower for the high school.
“My coaches have been the biggest influence on me. I wouldn’t have even been in track and field if it wasn’t for coach Moses and coach Chron. I wouldn’t even be able to throw if it wasn’t for coach Clements exercises every day,” said McCullough.
After high school, McCullough plans to attend college and hopefully earn a scholarship for football.
“I’m wanting to go to college after high school and hoping I can earn a scholarship for football and attend a college near home,” said McCullough.
When he’s not working on his skills as a thrower or devoting time to football, you can usually find him lifting weights with his friends or simply hanging out.
When asked what his favorite memory as a student-athlete at Coweta High School is, McCullough replied with, “Beating number one ranked Bishop Kelly for the district title, 42-27.
