VYPE: What are your personal goals this year and how is the season going?
Chaney: My personal goals this year are to improve my personal times, qualify for state in all four events again, and place higher on the podium in state. So far, we’re all on the road to success this year.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
Chaney: The most fun I had this past year was spending quality time with my teammates on the bus ride to state. We were singing along to music together at the top of our lungs with Coach Harper.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade or coach and why?
Chaney: My favorite teacher was my 8th-9th grade Spanish teacher, Mrs. Sugg. She’s an amazing role model, and I always loved going to her class because I knew it was full of fun!
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
Chaney: My favorite athletic memory from track is qualifying for all four of my events (4×1, 4×2, 200M, and Long Jump) for state as a freshman. It was a big accomplishment for me and being able to go to state alongside the upperclassmen is something I’ll never forget.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Chaney: The teammate that has left the biggest impression on me is Whitney Holcomb. This year is Whitney’s first year of track ever, and she’s worked really hard to get where she is now. Even with a little setback, she still shows up to every meet and every practice to cheer everyone on. I can’t wait to have her back on the track really soon!
VYPE: Who on your team has the best impression of your coach and who says the funniest things during games?
Chaney: Overall, everyone on the team has a great sense of humor. But the individual who has the best impression of coach would be Carson Flanary. He’s our number one supporter, and as he would say, number one block holder in the state! Carson is always there to cheer everyone on, no matter the outcome of his event.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?
Chaney: If I could pick any place for a summer vacation, I would travel to Bali. I enjoy being outdoors and getting to explore new places and things. I would take my best friend Whitney with me.
VYPE: If we gave you 500 dollars and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, how would you spend it?
Chaney: If I had 500 dollars and had to spend it within 24 hours, I would find a way to give the money to families in need. Whether that be a hospital, a nursing home, or even a local shelter for animals.
VYPE: Here is your chance to say hello, goodbye or thank you to anyone you wish.
Chaney: Thank you Vype for giving me this opportunity! I also want to thank my family, friends, coaches, and even the little ones who look up to me. Y’all have helped me become the best version of myself I can be. Not only on the field or with my spikes on, but in every aspect of life. I would not be the person I am today without you all in my corner. Thank you.
