VYPE: Kaylee, what grade are you in, what position do you play and when did you start playing volleyball?
Kaylee King: I am in the 12 grade, I am playing Libero and I started playing volleyball when I was in the 7th grade.
VYPE: What do you love most about this team?
KK: The strong presence we bring into the gym. Whether it is our energy, confidence, or the way we support each other. We show up with intensity and make it known that we’re there to compete.
VYPE: Who are some teammates we should watch this season?
KK: Alison Boone and Ellie Foster.
VYPE: What would you say is the strength of the team?
KK: Our number one biggest team strength would have to be our chemistry. All of the seniors, Jacee W., Avery D., Chesney T., Remmie H., Alison B. have all played volleyball together since 7th grade. We have a lot of trust in each other on the court and our ability to stay focused even in tough games.
VYPE: What skill have you improved on the most coming into the season?
KK: Passing, for the last 3 years my main position was setter, but this year I’m stepping up and going back to the position I started when first playing the game as a Libero.
VYPE: Do you have a favorite teacher?
KK: My 5th grade math teacher Mrs. Myers’s was by far my favorite teacher.
VYPE: What do you enjoy when you’re not on the court?
KK: I love to go to the lake with my family, fishing, going to church, and car rides with friends.
VYPE: What are your plans for life after high school?
KK: Playing volleyball would be amazing, but no matter what I am going to college to be an X-Ray Tech or an Ultrasound Tech.
VYPE: Who inspires you?
KK: When I’m off the court, My Mom is my biggest inspiration. I have watched my mom show up to everything of mine no matter the situation or cost. She is strong, resilient, and never allows anything to get in her way of supporting others, especially when it comes to her family. She is an amazing strong woman. My mom is definitely my best friend. I pray and inspire to be like her as a mom one day. When I’m on the court, Coach V is definitely my biggest inspiration, last year when she became the new head coach, she seen something in me I hadn’t seen in myself in a long time. She pushed me to ignite a fire of love and confidence within myself that she knew I had for the game. she believed in me when all I wanted to do was doubt my abilities. She never let me give up, she held me accountable, and I will be forever grateful to have her as my coach.
