Coweta’s Graycee Graham
Coweta junior Graycee Graham has grown up with a glove in her hand, and these days she is doing a little bit of everything for the Tigers softball program. Graham pitches, plays first base and can slide into the outfield, giving Coweta a versatile presence who embraces any role the team needs.
Graham said her favorite memory so far came on one of the state’s biggest stages. She is most proud of the home run she launched at the state tournament last season against Tahlequah, a moment that solidified her belief that she belongs among the state’s top competitors. “Softball has taught me how to be a team player and a leader,” she said, noting that the sport has pushed her to communicate, stay poised under pressure and set an example for younger players in the program.
In the classroom, Graham points to math teacher Mrs. Geiger as her favorite, crediting her with making a difficult subject finally click. “She helped me understand math more than any other teacher I’ve had so far. I love her,” Graham said. At home, her parents provide the foundation. She said they inspire her the most because of how hard they work to provide for her and her sister, and for the way they have helped shape her into the person she is today.
Graham also finds motivation within the softball world. Former Coweta standout Tayen Allen, now at McLennan Community College, has left the biggest impression on her as a role model who displays leadership and grit. “Anybody would be lucky to call her a teammate and friend,” Graham said. She has long admired former Oklahoma star Sydney Romero, whom she has watched since she was five years old, drawn to how smart Romero plays and to her highlight-reel performances.
Representing Coweta is personal for Graham. She loves that it is her hometown and takes pride in inspiring younger kids to pick up the sport or learn more about it, saying the program has become a part of who she is over the past three years. The best advice she carries with her is simple: play like it is your last time every time, because the game can be taken away without warning.
