Heading into the playoffs the Coweta Tigers have had a fantastic season thus far with a perfect 10-0 record. Before the season began head coach Tim Harper said that his team was returning a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball. He wasn’t wrong as the Tigers have things rolling into November.
One of the defensive studs is senior Wyatt Holmes who provides a big body on the defensive front and has been shutting down offenses all year. Holmes and this senior class have been playing together for a long time and were looking for an opportunity to put it all together.
“I think it is our defense and offense clicking and working as one,” Holmes said. “This senior class has had it in our minds since middle school that we were going to dominate our senior year.”
As a senior Holmes tries to bring leadership to the team and show the way for some of the younger members on the team. Holmes has been focusing on leading by example and showing the underclassmen what is expected of them and how to accomplish their goals. So, what advice does Holmes have for the underclassmen?
“Know that your high school career flies by,” Holmes said. “Don’t take a moment for granted and always give your all.”
Holmes practices what he preaches and has sought out advice from upperclassmen from Coweta in the past.
“As a football player I look up to the Bryans, Ricky and Stevie, they are from Coweta and they have helped me growing up and always give me advice for my career and for my skill set.”
Holmes also appreciates the support he receives off the field from his friends and family.
“My dad raised me right and he does his best and he works hard and provides for his family and has guided me through life,” Holmes said.
As the playoffs approach and Holmes nears the end of his high school career he said that he will always appreciate the lifetime bond of brotherhood and friendships he has made with his teammates over the years.
Next year Holmes will continue his playing career at the next level and further his education in college. Until then there is one matter at hand – the playoffs.
