It’s time for a “new era” at Coweta, said head coach Blake Dunn. “We are excited for a new era with a group to finish the competitive legacy past groups started,” Dunn said. “We have a good mix of veteran leaders and talented underclassmen.” The Tigers return shortstop Tayen Allen (Sr.), a four-year starter who earned district defensive player of the year last season. “Tayen is our senior shortstop this year,” Dunn said. “She has started for us since she was a freshman and has improved tremendously each year. She is a leader both on and off the field. I am excited to see her take on her senior year.” Pitcher Graycee Graham (So.) looks to follow up an impressive freshman year. “Graycee will be a sophomore for us this season. She stepped up in a big way for us last year, both in the circle and at the plate,” Dunn said. “I look forward to seeing how she keeps improving her game this season.” With such young talent populating the team, veteran leadership is essential. INF/OF Kye Carter (Sr.) “contributed offensively right away” after moving to Coweta last year. “Late in the postseason, she was big for us. She kinda came on, hit balls out of the park. She was a big reason we were so competitive in the state tournament this year,” Dunn said. “Great kid, character kid, team leader, leads by example.” OF Kylie Porschien is “not a super flashy player, but she’s consistent, real tough,” Dunn said. “I would say ‘gritty.’ She has very competitive at-bats, real good defensively.” Zaidyn Denton (Sr.) started last year at second base. “She’s not super flashy numbers-wise, but she’s consistent defensively. She really came on last year offensively toward the end of the season. I was proud of her,” Dunn said. “She’s a leader for our team — not super vocal — but works hard, shows up, buys into our team philosophy. She’s very tough and gritty, as well.” Karsyn Lydens (Sr.) played in the outfield and pitched last year. “Great kid, great grades. She’s going to be another one of our leaders this year,” Dunn said. “Again, not the most vocal, but she’s just bought into the whole program and my whole philosophy. She stepped up last year pitching a lot of innings when we had injuries. I think she really developed for us.”
