Coweta’s Graycee Graham – Softball Q&A – Presented by BancFirst of Coweta

Q&A with Coweta’s Graycee Graham – Softball Spotlight

VYPE: Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you got started in softball?

Graycee Graham: My name is Graycee.  My favorite color is teal. I have a German Shepherd and her name is Mya. My favorite baseball player is Ken Griffey Jr.  My parents, Jake and Ashlee Graham, got me into the sport of softball. I started when I was five years old, and I’ve been doing it ever since.

VYPE: What inspired you to play softball, and who are your biggest influences?

GG: When I was younger, I’ll be honest, I didn’t really know what softball was.  I do know that when I started playing, I absolutely fell in love with it. My biggest influences are my mom and dad, my papa Robert, and my sister. My mom and dad are always driving me around and giving me pep talks. My papa Robert is at every single one of my games for competitive softball and is my biggest fan. My sister is always trying to find a way to be better than me and it makes me train harder and push myself.

VYPE: What is your specific role on the team, and how do you prepare for it?

GG: I would say my specific role is to be a big hitter, a leader, and being a good pitcher who can help our team. I personally prepare for it by practicing my pitching skills, hitting skills, and fielding skills.

VYPE: What are your goals and hopes for the 2024 season?

GG: My goals and hopes for this 2024 season are to win districts, host regionals, make it to the state championship game, and to have good teamwork and attitudes year-round.

VYPE: Where do you see yourself in five years, both in softball and outside of it?

GG: I see myself becoming a physician assistant in the PBR and helping the doctor with injuries and other important medical issues.  I have chosen to only play softball in college because of what I want to do when I grow up.

VYPE: Who do you look up to as a role model, both on and off the field?

GG: My role model I look up to is Chaney Helton. She was a senior for Coweta High School last year and will be attending The University of Oklahoma in the fall. The way she plays the game is very fun to watch and her energy is contagious. I strive to be as good as her in leadership.

VYPE: Looking back, what are you most proud of in your softball career at Coweta High School?

GG: I’m proud of how the team accepted me last year being a freshman. It was so humbling. I’m proud of how hard we worked to get where we were in the state tournament, but most of all, I’m proud of the teamwork we had throughout the year.

VYPE: Is there anyone you’d like to thank for supporting you throughout your journey?

GG: I would like to thank God. Without his son Jesus I wouldn’t be the person I am. I would also thank my parents, my sister, my grandparents, Coweta Softball Head Coach Blake Dunn, coach Wortham, coach Childers, my pitching coach Terri McClure, my hitting coach Kyle Roat, and my friends for supporting me and helping me through this journey.
