VYPE: Baylee, when did you start playing volleyball and when did you know this was the sport you would focus on?
Baylee Belt: I started playing volleyball in 5th grade, but I got serious about it in 8th grade, my first club season. I knew from the beginning that this was the sport for me.
VYPE: What does this year’s team look like and who has impressed you so far this season?
BB: The team this year is so much more bonded and closer than in past years. Kaylee King has been the girl that has impressed me the most. Her drive and dedication to be better not only for herself as a setter but for her hitters as well.
VYPE: Who has been an inspiration in your life?
BB: My dad. He and I are very much alike and when he was in high school, he played sports as well. My dad and all my uncles played college basketball so my whole life I’ve been looking up to them and want to be as dedicated as them.
VYPE: What do you enjoy most about being a student athlete at CHS?
BB: I enjoy the atmosphere of CHS. There are so many athletes at CHS and all of them are caring and fun to be around. Every sport wants the others to succeed.
VYPE: Do you have a favorite subject in school and a favorite teacher?
BB: My favorite subject is math. I’ve just always understood it and it’s always clicked. My favorite teacher is Mrs. Shofee, my junior year algebra teacher. Her class was always fun and lighthearted.
VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?
BB: Their want to win. I personally am very competitive, and I love seeing that in my teammates.
VYPE: What’s been your most memorable moment on the court?
BB: During club season at regionals, we got into gold bracket and got put up against a team that had beat us a few times already and we went to three sets and won to go to the semifinals.
VYPE: How do you enjoy spending your free time?
BB: In my free time I like hanging out with my friends and my sisters. I also like painting although I don’t do much of it.
VYPE: What advice would you give someone who would like to play at the varsity level?
BB: Be a good teammate. You may not be able to control a lot of factors in volleyball, but you can control your attitude and how you cheer your teammates on.
