Edgar Cadena is a member of the Coweta High School marching band. He has been a part of band for six years and he credits his instructors for helping him develop into the musician and person he is today.
“The teachers that have impacted me the most would have to be all of my band directors,” Cadena said. “I can’t single one out as they have all had an influence on different aspects of my music career and life overall. Whether it’s jazz, marching band, or concert band, they have all shaped me into the musician I am today. They have helped me through the audition processes and taught me different ways of learning that I hope to pass on to others someday.”
A senior at Coweta, Edgar has an idea of what he wants to do once he graduates and it will continue to involve music.
“I hope to earn a music degree in the future and help pass my knowledge to my students,” he stated. “I also hope to compose a piece for a saxophone quartet and have it played by the best players in the nation.”
Making the decision to join the band was something that came naturally to Cadena and he says that being able to show his school pride is a bonus.
“I listened to a lot of music that featured saxophone in it, so I decided that I wanted to learn it through band,” he said. “It means a lot as I know i get to represent my town and fellow students on such a grand scale. I am proud to represent these groups in some of the biggest events during the marching season.”
Throughout his life, Edgar has had a few people that he has looked up to and that have had an influence on his life.
“My biggest role model in life is my mom,” he said. “Without her, I wouldn’t be where I am and I aspire to have her qualities as I get older. And someone who I enjoy following on social media is Chris Bumstead. Even though he isn’t involved with music, his posts motivate me to stay consistent and strive for what I want to achieve. Strangely enough, bodybuilding and music have a few similar aspects in common and his posts highlight them. He is also funny which helps.”
