Coweta mother of four, Shannon Walker has served as the treasurer for the Golf Booster Club for the last three years, and the last two years she’s served as the secretary for the Coweta Fastbreak Club for boy’s basketball.
“Currently I have three children in Coweta Public Schools. I have twins, Brody and Brock Walker who are freshmen. Then we have Mackenzie who is in first grade. Our oldest daughter, Matti, graduated last year from Coweta and played on the golf team,” said Walker. “Brody plays football and golf. He is also involved in Archery. Brock plays basketball and golf. Mackenzie cheers for Indian Nations Football Conference.”
Walker said she enjoys volunteering her time to insure everyone participating has the equipment and gear they need to play.
“The part I enjoy the most is the ability to help provide our programs with extra gear and equipment. When I volunteer, I know that I am doing something good for the athletes,” said Walker.
Being around other members of the community and treating each team like a family is a big reason why Walker said she enjoys living in and having her kids attend Coweta Public Schools.
“The families and the athletes make it fun. The other board members are always willing to help me out with any idea that I come up with. Last, but not least, my family is always pitching in to help which in turn leads to more time together as a family,” said Walker.
The pandemic has made it difficult to keep everything running smoothly. From sponsors to practice, things are certainly different at the moment.
“Due to the pandemic, it has been difficult to find sponsors. Since booster clubs are lacking sponsors everyone is trying to do more fundraising. This makes it hard to come up with fundraisers that no one else is doing,” said Walker.
Away from the hustle of school activities, Walker said she enjoys reading and hanging out with family when she has some free time. Congratulations to Shannon Walker for being named the Coweta Mom of the Month!
