For Coweta High School junior Chloe Roberts, cheerleading is much more than performing at games or learning new skills. It is an opportunity to build lasting friendships, encourage others and continue a passion she started as a first grader.
Roberts has cheered for 11 years and is now a member of the Coweta Lady Tigers varsity cheer squad. This season, she has embraced a new responsibility as a main base, helping provide stability during stunts.
“My position on my squad is main base. This is my first-year basing and I’m excited to learn more about it,” Roberts said.
While the physical demands of cheerleading require focus and trust, Roberts said the team’s relationships are what matter most to her. The Lady Tigers’ chemistry and the enjoyment they share have helped make her experience meaningful.
“The best thing about my team and teammates is how much fun we have and how we all get along. The bonds I have with the girls on my team are more important than anything in cheer,” Roberts said.
Roberts brings an encouraging mindset to the squad, identifying support for her teammates as one of her personal strengths. At the same time, she continues working to improve her tumbling and add new skills.
“A strength I have in cheer is always cheering my teammates on. I want to improve on my tumbling by getting more and more skills,” Roberts said.
Her approach reflects a lesson she learned during the previous season: consistent effort is essential to growth.
“A lesson I learned last year was to always put 100 percent effort in everything I do to make myself better,” Roberts said.
Roberts also draws inspiration from her mother, whose support has remained a steady presence throughout her cheerleading journey.
“The person who inspires me the most is my mom. She is always proud of me even if I’m not doing my best, and she is always there for me,” Roberts said.
Outside cheer, Roberts is involved in National Honor Society and attended Indian Capital Technology Center in the cosmetology program. Looking ahead, she plans to earn her cosmetology license before pursuing a career in education.
Her perspective has also been shaped by former teammate Kailee Troy, who reinforced the value of positivity and kindness.
“A former teammate that left an impression on me was Kailee Troy. She taught me how to always have fun and treat others with kindness,” Roberts said.
