Opponents who step onto the volleyball court against Coweta aren’t seeing double, there really are two players who look alike as the Mercer twins are each a force to be reckoned with on the court.
Allyson and Alexxia are a setter and outside hitter respectively, and both play basketball for the Tigers as well. They both agree that the season has gotten off to a good start.
“Morale is high,” Alexxia said. “We push each other to be the best we can be, and give each other confidence.”
When it comes to being siblings on the court, the Mercer girls were quick to point out the pros and cons.
“It’s great because you have so much trust in her,” Alexxia said. “You just expect her to get the job done.”
“It can be tough though,” Allyson said. “Because I expect so much from her that I sometimes push too hard and push her to her limits.”
Whatever they’re doing, it seems to be working, because in the last three years the twins have been to three state tournaments in basketball, and two in volleyball. They both recognize this is their senior year, and both want to impart more than playing time before they go.
“As leaders with experience, we try to push our teammates to trust each other and win at all costs,” Allyson said. “We have always been the type to lead, and Coach Ramos trusts us to lead them in the right direction.”
Both girls have had college visits, but neither are sure about their plans after high school. In their free time, they enjoy hanging out with friends, being outside, and spending time with their family and pets.
