Liam Taylor is Warming Up for a Second Chance in the State Tournament – Presented by BancFirst Coweta

By Derrick Smith

Everyone gets excited when they reach a major accomplishment in their life. Whether it is someone in the business world, the music industry, an athlete, or someone else, they want to be their best. Coweta’s Liam Taylor says that the biggest moment in his baseball career so far happened last season. “Last season, our baseball team made it to the finals of the regional tournament,” he recalled. “I pitched a complete game and helped our team punch our ticket to the state tournament. It was a really awesome experience.”

Taylor, who is a junior, attends Coweta High School and plays shortstop, third base and pitcher for the Tigers’ baseball team. He is in his eleventh season of playing the sport that he loves and while it takes a lot of work to be your best, Liam says that it is worth it. “I have put in a lot of hard work over the years,” he said. “There are a lot of extra hours beyond normal practice hours assigned by coaches. One of the most important things is to be dedicated to the sport. You may have to miss out on some fun things you want to do with your friends, but that is something you have to be willing to do.”

Taylor has had people that have been a part of his life and have helped him become the person and the player that he is today. Out of all of them, he says that there is one that has always been in his corner. “My mom has had the biggest influence on my life,” he said. “She has always pushed me to be the best that I can be, no matter what I am doing.”

Coweta head baseball coach Mason Stookey brags about his junior pitcher and how he has been a strength for the team. “Liam has been a huge asset on the mound for us,” the coach said. “He is a vital part of our infield and the leadership on the team.”

As a student at Coweta, Liam has learned from numerous teachers but there is one that stands out as his favorite. “Cody Pair has been my favorite teacher,” he stated. “He always helped me focus and perform to be the best I can in and out of the classroom.”
