Coweta High School volleyball player Ellie Foster brings a mix of leadership, faith and competitive fire to the Lady Tigers program, setting the tone from her spot on the court as the team’s setter. As Coweta navigates another season, Foster’s steady presence and perspective help shape the culture of a group she believes can do something special together.
“What I love most about my team is their attitudes and their love for the game. We have a great group of girls this year who have all stepped up to make the atmosphere of this team something special. I’m very excited to see where the season takes us!” Foster said.
Her role in that atmosphere is central. As the setter, she touches almost every possession and carries a natural leadership responsibility that fits her strengths on and off the floor.
“I’m the setter for my team and I love this position because I get to interact with every aspect of the game. I love the strategy needed for this position, and the challenge that comes with the responsibility,” she said.
That strategic mindset shows up most clearly behind the service line, where she embraces pressure moments and looks to set the tone early in sets.
“Serving is one of my greatest strengths. I love the strategy, pressure, and execution. It’s always been my favorite skill in the game. I am working on improving my hitting and blocking. I have played setter/rightside for club ball so I want to continue improving those skills so I can help my team in any way they may need me,” Foster said.
Her approach to growth is rooted in the lessons she has learned from people close to her, starting with her father.
“Someone who inspires me is my dad. He’s helped coach me for my entire volleyball career and he’s taught me so much about joy, patience, leadership, and competitiveness. He’s pushed me to always be positive and to lead like Jesus. I couldn’t be more thankful for him,” she said.
That emphasis on joy carries into how she views teammates like Hannah, whose energy helps keep the Tigers loose and connected.
“What I admire most about Hannah is her heart and how joyful it is. She is always keeping the team positive and laughing, because her joy is evident in everything she does. I’m so incredibly blessed to have such a hard-working teammate and sister. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for her,” Foster said.
She also credits former varsity setter Abby Upton for helping her grow into the position.
“A teammate I really looked up to when I first entered the program was Abby Upton. She was the varsity setter that year and she introduced me to the position and how wonderful it really was to lead as a setter. I struggled with setting when I first started out, but Abby encouraged me and gave me the confidence I needed to be the setter I am today,” Foster said.
After her time at Coweta, Foster plans to continue building on that foundation. “After graduation I plan on going to OSU to study Business and Entrepreneurship.”
