Coweta High School senior Kennedy Connell enters her final season with a clear sense of purpose, shaped by faith, resilience and a deep connection to her teammates.
Connell, an infielder, has developed into a key contributor for the Lady Tigers, embracing both the physical and mental demands of softball. She credits her inspiration to those closest to her.
“I’m inspired by my friends and their love for Jesus Christ, without whom none of this would be possible, including my softball career,” Connell said.
As she prepares for her senior year, Connell reflects on how her experiences both in the classroom and on the field have influenced her growth. English stands out as her favorite subject, largely due to her freshman teacher.
“My favorite teacher was my ninth grade English teacher, Mrs. Danielson, who managed to make Shakespeare fun for everyone,” she said.
On the field, Connell thrives on the energy of her teammates and the culture they have built together. She believes one of softball’s best unwritten rules highlights that connection.
“The dugout isn’t for sitting down, but for swarming the fence and cheering on your team,” she said.
That energy carries into every game, where Connell values the shared intensity. “My favorite thing about being on the team is always having people to match my energy during a game,” she said.
Connell points to teammates who help define the team’s personality. She describes Kenady as the most vocal presence, while Trinity keeps the mood light with humor. Meanwhile, Ava Cornell earns recognition for her “strategically aggressive baserunning,” often leaving the field with the dirtiest uniform.
As an infielder, Connell faces unique challenges, particularly unpredictable hops on older fields. At the plate, she approaches each at-bat with a disciplined mindset.
“Swing at a first-pitch strike, but otherwise be selective until you have two strikes,” she said. “A walk is as good for the team as a single.”
That mindset reflects the identity of the Coweta team.
“What I love most about my team is that we always find a way,” Connell said. “No matter how we start the season, we always pull it together to achieve our goals.”
